I am thinking of replacing old french doors with sliding doors. I am thinking vinyl doors with a saftey mechanism when closed.

Now here comes the part that worries me. We do not have an awning or any kind of overhang over our patio door. I am afraid that water will travel in our house through the tracks that the doors will slide on. (over heard horror stories) I heard that when it rains, the rain will build up on the track outside and pass under the door or through the crack where the doors meet and pool on the inside track.

has anyone ever heard of anything like this? is there any special kind of door I can purchase to prevent this from happening? or should I just replace the old doors with new french doors?

All suggestions and help are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advanced.
:)

I've had sliders and I've had French doors.
Our house faces the Albemarle Sound, which can have some pretty powerful and drenching storms blasting against the doors.
We went with Andersen French doors to replace our old sliders (water CAN get through the tracks, as you've heard).
They are made to withstand 60 mph winds, and ours have been through much higher and not leaked.
I would go with new French doors, if you ever have hard wind and rain against yours.
Good Luck!
