I need to add a fan in my bathroom, but I've read that I should vent directly out from a wall or through the ceiling with a downhill slope. Can't I just go up directly to the roof? Any tips for an easier install would be appreciated.

You can go directly up through roof.

Keep in mind though that if the area you are venting is a very high moisture area, There is the probability that moisture can accumulate in this line.

I would hard pipe this instead of flexible duct work.

Make sure that where you go through roof.....it is protected from outside rain or snow from entering this piping.
