Our new master bedroom is to have a southwestern theme (since my wife has a Navajo heritage). What would be the best choice for a DIY wall treatment?

Our current plans are to have the drywall sprayed with the same texture as the ceiling - orange peel. We are also considering doing some sort of faux finish painting. The wall color is to be a golden tone.

There are many DIY texture paints available. A sand texture is lovely for a decorative stucco or southwestern look.

the textured paints i've seen were quite expensive, and they required 2 coats. i'm sure they'd be really pretty and would provide an interesting effect. However, if you're wanting something less expensive, i'd suggest going ahead with the gold base paint on the textured wall, and do some sort of sponge painting effect over that with a terra cotta color for a classic Southwestern look.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I see Lowes sells a Earth Elements Granite paint (an acrylic) that is about $30 a gallon. Does anyone have any experience with that?
