What type of insulation do I use on a drop- down attic access door located in the ceiling? We tried using the self adhesive foam type but it only lasted one year. The adhesive doesn't stick any more and the foam is hard. There is a rather narrow width for adding the insulation. The insulation can't be very thick because it will cause the door to be uneven with the ceiling. What to do?

break out the furring strips and the r-max.... what you can try is building a swing up door that covers the stairs from above. if you use a set of hinges when you lower the stairs, you can climb up and push the trap door open...the r-max is light and will help to keep the good in and the bad out.
