My sewing machine breaks the thread all the time. It makes a crunching noise just before it breaks.I have used different needles and different types of thread. Is it out of timing? How do I fix it? It is a kenmore machine.

Sounds like it is threaded incorrectly. If the thread is not in the take up lever, the machine will only attempt one or two stitches before the thread gets balled up in the bobbin area. Perhaps the hook assembly is not seated correctly. If the thread is shredding rather than snapping, look for a rough spot in the needle plate.
