Hi,
I am hoping you can help me with some questions. We purchased our home in January 2002 and it was new construction. We have already had our one year walk through and the windows seemed to be fine. Last Friday I heard a crack from the living room window, which is something I hear from the other windows when it is hot outside sometimes. This time it sounded louder. Our living room window is about 69 7/8 x 57 7/8. I went over to check it out and noticed there is a gap about 1/4 inch wide in the middle between the window frame and the window sill. Now the sides of the window are still flush with the wood and the bottom of the window in the corners are still mainly flush but as you go towards the center of the window the gap is big. The top of the window has a gap but not as big. I have called the builder but he has not returned my call. I have been sick all weekend feeling that it may fall out. I am wondering if this happens often because as long as I have lived in brand new places with new vinyl windows I have never experienced this. Does it appear that they didn't install it to specifications? When you buy a new home are the windows under warranty as far as the installation? We didn't buy the extended warranty with the house. So the main question is will the window continue to slide away and eventually pull away from the wood and fall out? I don't know what holds them in so I am hoping you can give me some peace of mind. :)
Thank you so much. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

budnspuds,
Your builder should come back and repair what needs fixing. The gap you mentioned has me concerend that installation was not done properly.
If you know where the windows came from, try and contact them. There should be a warranty on them but it seems that improper installation may void it.
If necessary, call another company to at least look at them and access what is happening.
Good Luck!
