I'm finally going to start work on the ceramic tile in my basement. I have 2 areas to tile:

1) A 10.5' x 4' "bay" area in a 30' long room. The carpet will meet
the tile along the 10.5' length.

2) A 8' x 5' corner where carpet will meet the tile on 2 sides.

Question is, what kind of transition do I need, if any. Carpet is not installed yet. I'm having a professional install the carpet - should I just let him worry about it? Is there anything special I need to do to the edges of the tile where they will meet the carpet to make it look better?

Thanks,
Jim

your carpet installer should beable to tuck the carpet right against the tile. This makes for a very nice looking transition.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll rely on the carpet guy to finish it right, then. I guess I should shoot for full tiles along that edge, then?

Well, the carpet is done. I decided not to do anything for a transition and see what the carpet installer does. They did a great job bringing the carpet tight against the tile - I didn't really need anything. The carpet is slightly higher than the tile, which is better than the other way around (and would have required a transition).

On a related note, and it's too late now but I have to know, do you tip carpet installers? I felt like I should because they did a great job but I didn't have much cash left after buying them lunch and dinner (it took them almost 9 hours to complete the installation). The carpet has a subtle checkerboard pattern so the seams had to be perfect - they are. The only reason I know there are seams is because he told me where he put them.

Thanks for the tips. This site has been instrumental in me being able to do this project myself. I posted questions here every step of the way and got great, 100% accurate advice every time.
