I have heard that using blast furnace slag as aggregate under concrete is not reccommended. Why is that? How many problems will that cause?

Probably because it lacks structural uniformity and standards.

Actually I found the answer on the web, and its steel slag not blast furnace slag that expands as some of the free lime hydrates.
