Hey,
Im from Long Island and looking to side my home w/ hardiplank, and have noticed that 3 sides of my home are sheathed w/ gypsum boad (shhetrock material). So i figure i'd resheath using plywood and reinsulate the walls from the exterior.
1) Will resheathing w/ plywood make a better insulator?
2) If i insulate from the exterior, the paper backing will face the outside. Will this effect its insulating value? (the instructions say to be sure to use paper facing in)

Paper faces the warm side of the structure. In other words, if you are installing the insulation from the outside, when the insulation is installed, you should not see the paper on the insulation. It faces away from you when installing from the outside and towards you when installing from the inside.
There is very little difference in thermal value between the plywood and the sheet rock. The plywood has a better repelling and expelling properties towards moisture than the sheet rock.
