I have a very old house with plaster and lathe walls and ceilings. The ceilings have been sprayed many years ago with the accoustic sparkle type of coating. I want a smooth ceiling and want to put up sheetrock. I probably need to put firring strips up to nail the sheet rock to. How do I locate the joists in the ceiling to nail the strips to? I have tried using a Black & Decker stud finder on the walls, but it doesn't work that accurately.
Help anyone?
