can anyone tell me what the pressure readings should be on the high and low side of a central air unit ?
my thermal limiter kicked and the compressor would not run.
after letting the compressor cool overnight i started the unit up
in the morning the compressor was running.
the pressures are 18psi on the low side and 125psi on the high side

If this is R-22 your not near head there. How can you read the gauges are you EPA? IF you where you would know what the head should be. Call a tech I think you need freon thats why the compressor got hot and kicked off. If you let it run you will buy a new compressor;) ED

i added some freon the low pressure reading is now 50psi and the high side is 250psi my evaporater is cold now the house is cooling down ambient temp was about 72 degrees when i took
these readings and it was 82 degrees in the house my air temp at the vents started at 80 with these readings and gradually
keep going down after about an hour 68 degrees from the vents
and 20 minutes later i'm down to 66 degrees from the vents
does this seem normal these readings were taken from the vent
furthest away from furnace the plenum where the evaporater is
is cold to the touch large low side line at the compressor and
right before it goes to the evaporater are not cold to the touch

Is your air filter clean and have you looked at the A coil ? Is it clean ?The blower clean. That burn off is to low if the home was 82o when you started. You have to read the temp of the air in and out of the unit to come up with the drop over the coil. You did blow you hoses and didnt have any 12 or 134 in them before you went on this 22?Do you have a TXV or is this a cap tube;) ED

you may want to call a certified (epa 608) tech. for this job... even though vehicle (epa 609) ac provides cooling just as a home ac does, they are however very different in many ways.

yes i did blow out the hoses this is a capilary tube system the lower coils of the acoil are icing the top of acoil is not

Feel the cap tubes and see if there is any diff in temp on them . They do plug up some times and you have to use a capillary tube cleaner to get them open.Sometimes there will form a small ice ball where its stoped up on the cap tube.;) ED

thanks to all who helped i think i'm up and running ok blowing
cool air. if anything i may be a little low on charge
i'm afraid to over charge the pressures don't seem to be where
i think they should seems like suction pressure is too low at 52psi
but liquid pressure is running at 240psi on an 85 degree day
i thought suction pressure should be around 60psi
i'm blowing cool air so i'll leave well enough alone and have a
professional check it out. the cap tubes all seem to be the same temp. if these pressures are too high or dangerous please let me
know the documentation i have with the unit says that liquid pressure would be at this range at 85 degrees ambient

washing the outdoor coil to drop the head pressure, you may have a dirty coil, and be undercharged.
