I have a oil furnace which is also the hot water heater. Recently, I had to change a faucet head, and therefore had to turn off my water supply. While the water was off, I (not knowing what it was) pulled on a switch that made some water pour out from a long tube attached to it. Since that time, i haven't been able to make it stop. It continues to drip very hot water, and I am clueless. Please help

Does this lever you pulled have any tags or markings on it at all? Sounds like you may have activated the relief valve. It should reseat itself if not it more than likely has some type of debree stuck in it. Try and activate it a couple times at full blast and flush it out. If it still leaks you will need to replace it with an identical one.

Let us know if it has any markings, tags, or what it looks like.

yeah, it had 2 tags on it, one said it was an emergency relief valve, and you were right, one good blast and a whole mess of junk came out, after a good ten minutes it stopped dripping altogether...thanks so much
