Hi.....
I am about to tile a large kitchen floor with Ceramic Tile. There are two layers of linoleum tiles, which are going to be removed. The glue or residue from these will be scraped as best as possible (what a job! Yuck!) Under these there are tongue and groove floor boards and under those is a wooden sub floor. These are in sound condition and do not squeek or move. The house is 130 years old. My questions are
1) Is it ok to scrape off most of the linoleum residue best as possible?
2) Does CBU or Plywood need to go over the tongue and groove?
There would be a problem with the floor hight if backerboard has to be used.

If there is room for another layer of ply there is room for cement board. skip the ply! Assuming floor is 16" oc. and solid.

Actually, I would add the plywood, 3/8 or better, and then go with a membrane, either Schluter "Ditra" or Nobleseal. :)
