I have a gas fired boiler for my baseboard radiators in my home. My water heater is electric. I am thinking of replacing the electric water heater with a gas unit. My question: can I vent this water heater into the same chimney as the boiler? Looking at the chimney in the basement, it appears that there was once another vent going into it, but it is capped. There is only one flue inside the chimney itself.
Thanks

Andrew :

It is common here to install a hw tank flue into the main chimney but you will have to check to see if the sizing is correct or if it's allowed by your inspection authority.
I would first check with a licensed tech to size it up
