My Fedders window unit is three years old & it has never given me a speck of trouble, but this summer it keeps tripping the breaker. This occurs at least once a day, sometimes more often. I removed the front panel and throughly vaccuumed the fins out & at least once or twice a month I clean the filter. Lately it makes a very loud noise (sort of a boom) when the compressor shuts off & right before the compressor shuts off it makes a roaring noise that gets deeper & slower until the boom when it shuts off. This does not always occur, however. What could be wrong with such a young unit that would cause it to trip the breaker so often?

because of a short or over amp condition. if the breaker was tripping with no noise from the unit, i would look at the breaker or wiring, but in your case, it sounds as if the unit is causing it. what kind of warranty do you have on it? take it to a local hvac shop and let them hear it, a cheap way to get a trained ear to listen to it.
