How long should it take for the air coming out of the registers to be cool. I just had new outside unit installed. Seems to take forever to start putting out cool air. Generally seems to blow room temp air for the first hour then starts to cool. Did not replace (or even clean) the evaporator coil.

Compressor seems to be on. Outside fan is on. Inside blower is on. After about an hour the air coming out or registers gets cool. When air temp. at the thermostat is reached the a/c shuts off. When kicks back on it again takes a long time to start cranking out noticeably cool air.

What is normal.? It is peak heat/humidity season here.

The air coming out of the registers should be about 15 deg F. cooler than the air going in the return air grills.
This means that when you first turn on the a/c and the room is 90 the air coming out will be about 75.
Yours sounds pretty normal.

Check the evap. You may be able to increase the efficiency if it's dirty.

the evap coil, it will operate better with a clean evap. we look for 16 to 20 degree drop here in atlanta from return to supply, did they pull a vacuum on the system? your system may be improperly charged, how new is it? too often when the outdoor section is changed, and the indoor ignored, the result is overcharging to compensate for inefficient evap.
