Hey there, this is my first time using these forums but they seem pretty helpful and friendly :)

Sorry in advance if you don't fully understand everything I write, I'm fairly new to do it yourself projects.

Here's my problem, I hope someone can help me out with it. My sister is moving back in this Thursday, meaning she gets my bedroom and I'm moving into the basement. The problem is the room I will be getting has a big hallway with our laundry room, shower and garage directly off of it. My dad's bedroom is also directly off of my room (but right by the door). We wanted to put in a partition to make the entrance to his room and mine seperate.

The idea is a straight wall, then a 45 degree angle with the door, then another straight wall (90 degrees to the first, but off the 45 degree angled wall, if you understand what I mean).

So my dad knows how to install walls (he built our house) but wants me to take on the project so I have the experience. He told me to look up on the internet about installing walls/partitions, whether we should use a permanent or temporary wall (as we don't know if I'm moving away for college in a year).

In short, my question is: Where would I find a (simple to understand) guide/tutorial for putting in a wall or partition? What about materials? I'm also interested in sound-proofing (or sound lessening?). What about permanent or temporary, is there a major difference cost wise?

Thanks for reading through all my gibberish and I hope someone out there can help me! (And if you can, you're my new hero!)

marko,
their is not much diffence between a temp basement wall and a permanent......they will both be attached to the ceiling and floor..

with building a temp wall, generally the sheetrock is not finshed with tape and compound to the cieling and built without electrical outlets and switches...

a few things for temp

1. use tapcons on the sole plate which can then be removed easier than a power load installed nail.
2. but the sheetrock tight to the cieling and finish with a bead of paintable silicone instead of tape and mud or use a finish molding.
3. option; panel boards instead of sheetrock which eliminates alot of finish work and also easy to remove.
4. use prehung doors
