I am putting in a ceramic tile backsplash above a stove. However, I only want the backsplash above the stove (doing the entire wall would be a larger project than I am willing to tackle). If I put backerboard over the existing painted drywall, what are my options for a nice border to cover the differences between the wall and the 1/4 inch backerboard? Thanks.

If it is just over the stove just put it over the drywall with mastic. It is not a "wet" area. Finish off the edges with bullnose tile.
