I was just given a Carrier window unit (Model #XCA153D approx. 10 years old, 15,000 btu's) which was apparently "working fine" two years ago. The unit is now in place to find out that it is not blowing any cold air. Regardless of the thermostat setting, the condensor does not kick in. Is there anything that I could do to trouble shoot this before I have to remove this & drop it off to a service shop. Could this be just a thermostat problem and or a condensor problem? Would the condensor "kick-in" even if the refrigerant was in need of being recharged?
thanks for the help! Too hot in NY!

Just a lot of if's here You would have to ring it out to find out why the compressor dont run. You could try and run the tstat up and down a lot and see if its the switch points there. Also play with the fan cool air switch . Could be just dirt on the points. if not take it into a shop. Yes the compressor there should try and start if out of freon. If it has a leak in it did you see any big spot of oil some where in the unit. This could tell you it has a leak in it.;) ED
