Hello everyone,
I'm currently starting on a garage to bedroom conversion. The siding on the sides of the garage door is flagstone and I'm planning to remove all of it and reinstall it after I close in the opening to avoid seams where the door was. The house was built in 75' and the stones are currently installed over what looks like a concrete and lath backing that is about 1/4" thick and mounted over 3/8" plywood. I'm wondering if 1/2" Hardi backer installed alone over the studs will be sturdy enough or if the plywood is neccesary. The reason I ask is that overall thickness is a concern.
Also, I need to level the floor. Does anyone see a problem with filling in the deep end with concrete then use leveling compound over the concrete?
Thanks!
