I have a weatherking central A/C unit guessing appx 15-20 years old that required service last month which service tech said it just required to be recharged but did tell me it was getting old .That fixed that but now when the a/c unit kicks on after about 5 seconds into running the unit sure makes a loud grinding type noise that only last a couple a seconds and continues to runs without any problem.Prior to it being serviced i had cleaned the the unit both inside and out which kind off makes me think a fan blade may be out of wack a little and the noise is coming from it till it reaches speed . (have tried to observe it while unit kicks on but just can't pinpoint the source)any thoughts if that would be it and is there a way to correct it -Thanks

could be having starting issues, maybe an internal mechanical problem. either way, be prepared to replace it.

Just for kicks if you want . Power off hold a stick so it just hits a fan blade and spin the fan by hand see if all the blades hit the stick the same. Also look for cracks in the blades close by the hub. See if any end play in the fan up and down.
like hvac4u said could be in the compressor also. ;) ED
