is it ok to build a partition wall over existing carpeting? its very thin indoor / outdoor carpeting. i want to eventually take up the carpeting and put down commercial tile, but for now i don't have the money.

will i have trouble removing the carpet after the fact when the walls are complete? any other options?

Cut the carpeting out now. It will save you time and aggravation later.

I agree with Jeff, I'd never build a partition wall over carpeting. Mark your wall & cut out the carpet first, then stand up your wall.
