Hi:
I want to install a partition wall to divide a large bedroom into two. The length of the room is 16'4". I have two questions.

1. For the top and bottom plates should I start with three eight-foot 2x4s and cut to size, and if so, what would be the best cut pattern. Or just get 2 ten-footers?

2. When joining two framing sections, should the stud on the end where the two sections meet attach to the plates for both sections? That is, should this stud sit half on one section and half on the other?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.
