How do I build a retaining wall in my back yard?

We had a retaining wall put in at the front of our property line. We were dealing with a sloped area so the height of the wall varies. We had a professional do the job and we are glad we did. The hardest and most important part is the foundation and 1st course. After that it is a breeze, altho a strain on the back. I personally put in 2 tree rings in my back yard using retaining wall blocks . They turned out pretty good but it was a royal pain in the butt. Each block has to be leveled side to side and front to back. Very fustrating and time consuming.
