About a year ago we moved into a house that was wallpapered in every room. We stripped all the wallpaper using DIF wallpaper remover and lots of scraping and then washed down the walls before painting. Most of the walls look great, however, 1 entire room, 1 wall in another room and one hallway are very rough. The paint is cracking in places and small pieces are coming off. We're assuming that we didn't get all the adhesive off the walls, but how do we fix it and prevent it from happening again? Thanks.

Wallpaper glue resurfaces. You are probably right, that you did not get all the glue. Best approach will be to scrape off the failing paint, wash the wall again to remove any residue of the original wallpaper glue. Just to be sure, I would wash the walls more than once.

If there are areas that the paint survived, you can feather sand the edges to blend with the wall with some 180 - 220 grit sandpaper.

After it is all dry, prime the entire wall where this damage occurred with a good sealer - primer, such as: Zinsser 123. Let this sit for a day or so, then inspect it to make sure that it does not show any sign of failing. (This primer will stabilize an amazing array of problems.) Then paint the walls again.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! Does it matter what we wash the walls with or is there a particular product that is better. Also, is the Zinsser 123 widely available? Is it similar to a product like bullseye?

I would be inclined to use the wallpaper remover to wash the walls, or spic and span.

Zinsser 123 is widely available. The HD and lowes carry it.
