is it ok to construct a partition wall underneath a drop ceiling? i have a drop ceiling in my basement already, and i just need a small area sectioned off, and rather then rip apart the ceiling in one spot it would be easier to construct a wall below it.
my girlfriend babysits for a construction worker, and he seems to have done this in his basement, to add a room for his soon to be born son. this is where i got the idea from. any help?

As long as your new wall isn't too long and is secured both to the floor & the existing wall it will probably be sturdy enough, but you will proably have to use a layered or build-up style of top corner trim to hide the gap between the top of the new wall & the existing ceiling. This is like just for a closet area or to box in house systems (i.e. furnace)?
