I want to re-do my acoustic ceilings. I would like to now the steps taken to do this.

I am waiting for my test results. In No. CA, drywall contractors will remove (if it is not asbestos) and replace with a paintable surface either flat or textured, like walls. The forum moderator explained the process of scraping off (after wetting the material). It sounds messy. I have not found a book on the subject. And I want to do paneling painted white since I have high pitched ceilings in the family and living room.
