I'm finishing my basement and have installed drywall. I've finished mudding and taping two rooms, and when I thought the walls were seamless, I put on the primer to find out that there are very visible ridges where the mud filled the beveled edges of the drywall. There were no noticible ridges before priming. I even did the light trick to see. I sanded religously between each coat of mud, and even used a sponge to sand to see if I could improve the look on the second room. I use a 4 inch knife the first coat, six inch the second coat and a ten inch to end with. What am I doing wrong? I'm using all-purpose drywall mud. Do I need to thin it between coats? Help. Thanks.

Question; Did you put on first coat, after your mudded and before you primed ? You need to put on 2 coats. It sounds like that is what is missing.

What is first coat? Is that a paint? A type of mud?
