I recently bought a house about 35 years old, with painted brick exterior. Some of the paint is just starting to peel on one corner, but it seems to be taking chunks of the brick with it. At least I think it's brick, underneath the paint, the brick is gray and looks like concrete. Anyway, it seems to be crumbling wherever the paint is peeling, and some of the bricks look really lumpy under the paint. Did they build houses out of concrete in the shape of bricks back then? Would that be less durable than regular brick? Is my house going to crumble down around me? Can this problem be fixed? I don't know anything, so any information will be appreciated.

this is the type of situation When we can't give advice without a look. The situation you describe is pretty different for brick or for concrete or even concrete blocks
