A room in my house has paneling over plaster walls. After removing a couple pieces of the paneling I notice the plaster has large holes and some cracks. A contractor told me he could put blue board up over the old plaster. Is this ok or should I take down the old plaster first?

Yes, you can put blueboard over plaster. I would just use plain sheetrock. The only thing you must remember, is that your walls will be 1/2 thicker, so make sure you have enough window and door trim sticking out so everything matches. If you do not have the extra 1/2 then you will have to take the lathe and plaster down. Every house is different. Good Luck
