Has anyone tried painting old hardwood floors with an oil based paint for soem color? I'm thinking about doing this to get a differnt look. The floor needs to be replaced but I can't do that right now due to $$$$. I'm thinking if it gets a little worn look to it that's okay. Just seeing if anyone has some thoughts.

1. It is irreversible (or so final functionally its so).
2. You are committing to replacing the floor.
3. Are you sure it can't be refinished for a fraction of the $.
(A pro can fix some problems that look bad to a homeowner, but once you paint...)
4. Remember that some of the flaws and age signs are things potentialy buyers like.
Not saying don't do it, but there may be a different way. Its kind of like getting a whole-body tattoo.
Some considerations that is needed may involve age, items applied to the floor like wax or poly, what makes you think its beyond repair. These may affect the paint choice and are out of my knowledge but a pro might need to know. They may have other options or even pitfalls.
