Painting - (a little different...but i love it) painting checkered??? a whole wall? any tips?

alright, well my room is in deep need of re decorating, and i just recently came up with a great idea. well, i love ska music, and the ska trademark really is the black and white checkerboard pattern.
seeing as i love ska, i was thinking about doing a whole wall in that pattern, or just a border around the whole room. I'm going towards the whole wall idea.
but i was just wondering if anyone knew any tips that could help me in my idea.
