I am in the process of a complete remodel of my 80 year old house. I am adding a second story which required lots of earthquake retro-fitting. The foundation to the roof are all connected via simpson holddowns, strapping, etc. It is also shearwalled top to bottom on the exterior. I am going to use hardi-plank cement lap siding over the exterior plywood shearwalls. The first and second floor are connected via simpson MTSI type strapping on the exterior. My problem is the straps will create a "hump" in the siding when it's installed. Anyone have any ideas on how to hide the strapping under the siding? Thanks!
