I moved in a new house 2 years ago. Now, I am planning to do some painting. After taking care of caulking, nail popping, sanding, etc. do I need to put primer on existing paint (as provided by the builder). I am planning to put two coats of "Satin Enamel" in each room.

Thanks.

From my experience (just in painting my own house and helping friends), priming is a good idea. Especially if the color you are painting is any different than your current color. If you prime the walls you might only need to do one coat of the paint (depending how it looks after it has dried.)

To add to the foregoing, priming will help even out the finish on places that have been repaired. If you tint the primer toward the color of the finish coat, it will help even more with coverage. It may be that one finish coat is all that is needed. Primer costs less than paint.

Hope this helps.
