I am planning to make exterior frames for my windows. What are some of the best type of woods to use? It will have to stand the hot SUN. Therefore, is there something I can use to treat the wood and prevent it from warping?

Thanks

Choose straight grained woods, check it when you buy it. If you are not going to plane and rip your own, choose carefully what you buy. You won't be able to change it.

A good wood for exterior trim is fir. Other good woods are: white oak, redwood, and spanish cedar. To protect wood from the elements, you can paint all six sides before installing it. Be sure to caulk all the joints and seams after installation. Keeping the sun and water off of the wood will help keep it from warping. Caulk and paint are the best protection for wood.

Hope this helps.

Depending upon locale, spanish cedar is most expensive, redwood next, white oak, then fir. If it were mine, it would be fir.

Hope this helps.
