Hello zikfroide. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
The vent hood is the part the vent tubing is attached to on the opposite end of the dryer. It will be through an outside wall. Inside the hood is the flapper. It should be able to open and close freely.
However, based on the problem description you described, the venting system nor the hood flapper does not appear to be the problem.
The problem could be one of the solenoids. They are attached to the top of the gas valve. Another possibility could be the gas valve. Other possible cause could be the glowing hot surface ignitor, etc.
Within this forum are several recently asked questions pertaining to dryers that do not heat. Reading them will provide you with every possible cause and all the possible solutions to fix the machine.
Be sure the electrical plug to the dryer is removed from the power receptacle or power source before attempting any repairs.
It's advisable to clean out the entire venting system. Replace any plastic tubing in the venting system with new tubing, if needed. Clean out all the collected lint inside the cabinet.
Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the most likely possible problem may be. Take will need the make, model and serial numbers.
Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
