I am in desperate need for plans for a traditional farmhouse fireplace.
I am planning to build (constructors already on site!) an indoor fireplace with the following dimensions :
Width : 2200 mm
Depth : 1100 mm
I know the height of the entrance has a relation to the depth. Some people told me that with a depth of 1100mm, my height from the hearth must be 1600mm. This sounds a bit much and might look quite stupid. But maybe it must be like this though!
Based on this size, I need to know the size of the flue, the measurements of the smoke shelf and its relation to the front and back of the chimney. I know it has to form some sort of suction 'throat' as well.
I cannot afford for this fireplace not to draw extremely well(which will also be used for barbeques), since it is the main attraction of an entertainment room. Fires will be made in more than one spot in the fireplace at the same time.
Ideas and/or help will really be appreciated.
Regards

HermanFick,
I would have to say do a web search but I am not aware of any fireplace plans available as you describe. You may have to buy a book on this project.
If you'd like, have a fireplace installer come out and review what you would like to do. Maybe some ideas can be acquired to get you going in the right direction.
Not knowing where you live, a licensed fireplace installer/mason would have to used to install this. Some areas will allow you to fabricate but you'll have to check it out.
Good Luck!
