Hello there,

I plan on painting my cement porch soon. I had wanted to use a latex-based paint because I had read that it was better to use on cement than oil. However...

Here's the problem:

1) current paint on porch is oil based.

2) on exposed part of porch it is in bad shape (almost all peeled off, I think I can get it all off)

3) on covered part of porch, it is all there and peeling only in certain locations.

What do I do?

Should I use stripper and get it all off the half of the porch where it is ok?

Hope someone has experience with this sort of thing...

Thanks

The concrete needs to be clean. I think that a pressure washer might do the trick to remove the loose paint and clean the porch for painting. Use a solution of bleach 25% in water with a dash of tide, apply the solution, let it sit for few minutes then pressure wash off. Rinse everything this stuff touches.

This should remove all the marginal paint. Then you can prime with Zinsser 123 or its equivalent, and apply two coats of your choice of colors of porch and floor paint.

Hope this helps.
