I have primed my pine 6" clapboards prior to installing. Now that I have nailed them up, what should I do with the nail heads?

set and fill them? Spot prime over the heads only? or will two coats of finish house paint do the trick? I used galvanised siding nails (Maize (sp?) is the brand name)

Thanks for any help

I would set and fill the nailheads. Then prime and paint. That should do it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your recommendation.

What a lot of work to side and paint it right. do contractors normally do this type of laborious (read expensive) work? pre-prime, set nails, re-prime, finish coats? I guess this is the advantage of DIY!!

I haven't seen any evidence that many contractors are so thorough.

A full-time house painter may do it, but would probably only spot prime problem areas.
