I have recently purchased a new house - full brick - with one central unit. The house is primarily one floor, with an upstairs isolated bonus room. The bonus room is about 12'x20' (standard south-facing on one end), and has two vents in the room, but is cooled and heated by the main unit. The sole use of this room is as a playroom for my little girls.
The room is quite warm - even with two ceiling fans - during the day, but I am working on a limited budget, and would like the most efficient means to provide reasonable temperature control to the room.
My question...which option would provide the most bang for the buck...
1) adding another two vents to the room, or 2) adding a separate wall unit in the room? A separate central unit is simply too expensive.
What makes/brands of wall units are most reliable? All comments are appreciated...Bill

Bill:
Adding additional vents is the best way to go.
You will have to originate them from the furnace plenum though.
There is a good chance someone just tapped into an existng duct to supply this room.
Best bet is to get a reliable sheet metal contractor out to estimate what it would take to provide enough air to this room. You could save some money by doing the necessary remodelling to accomodate the ductwork.
If this involves too much remodelling then a wall unit, permanently mounted will be a low cost option..
