My 12 yr old son wants to build a fort in the backyard. He wants it to be a 6 1/2' x 6' x 6' box with windows, a roof you can stand on (with a safety ralling), a ladder, and a trap door. It's got to be CHEAP since he will be paying for the supplies himself. Can anyone give us some advice?
Thanks

You may get some ideas from looking at some of the "playhouse" options from this page which is a couple of clicks out of the "Free Woodworking Plans" Sticky. I realize this may not be exactly what you are seeking and of course, I'm sure others may have a suggestion because "forts" were a big part of childhood. I've promised my daughter that I will build her the one which is labeled "fort" after I've finished some fixing-upping, but because the two-story structure would put her beyond the protection of my walled compound; I'm really hoping to get her steered toward the "Victorian" or at least, the one which is called "Frontier" when the time comes...
Also, you might want to stop in a box store and look that the Swing-n-Slide collection because according to the calcs I did in advance of purchasing one of their swings, the kits are only a couple of dollars more than figuring-it-out with whatever is available and in addition to getting hardcopy plans, parts list and proper hardware; He/You would also get a little technical support from the operators who are standing-by...
Hope this Helps;

PS) And, because price is an issue; In addition to looking through the S-n-S catalog/website, you might also want to peruse their listing of discontinued/clearance products and I guess I should also point-out for the sake of clarity; Swing-n-Slide's are component systems, so he wouldn't have to get the slide...

I recently purchased plans for a swingset and fort. I can make copies and send them to you for free if you like. Just send me an address. I used them myself and it looks great. You will have to make changes in the top to walk on the roof but it may help. Goodluck.
