I have an acrylic bathtub at home. Unfortunately I have managed to scratch it badly. I need an advise for the best way to make a cosmetic repair. The colour if the tub is pergamon.
Thanks in advance.

Your local bath fixture supplier should be able to put you in touch with someone who can make the repair. The great thing about acrylic products is that the color goes all the way through, so repairs can be made and scratches buffed out.

Thanks a lot. I already did that. The vendor provide repair service but it costs a fortune (relatively). I was thinking to do it by myself (purely DYI, like the scratches :-)) and therefore I posted the question. I need to know the repair materials and method.
Any thoughts?

You can purchase plastic buffing and polishing compounds at a plastics supply store. A soft cloth and lots of hand rubbing, is the basic process.

OK. Thanks. That's a progress. Any idea about brand names ?

Brand names: Novus & 3M or the house brand at major plastics suppliers. The Novus system is easy 1 2 3. More about Novus http://www.noscratch.com/novus/ 3M sells individual items and complete refinishing systems. More about 3M http://www.ez2order.com/3Mfinishingsystems/ Possible sources: plastics, boat, aircraft, or automotive supply or a crafts store.

Suggestion: obtain a small piece of acrylic plastic (scraps a sold inexpensively at plastic supplies), and practice while observing the results on this piece, before using any product on your tub. They have pamphlets on acrylics also.

What would you recommend on a cast iron tub with scratches? I can't find any ideas in home repair books or on-line yet.

Thanks!

As I'm not having this type of bath I can only recommend from my personal knowledge:
1) if the damage is mild then you can fill them with Epoxy (after good cleansing of course) and then spray gently with suitable enamel paint. Pros: quite a cheap solution. Cons: there may be colour differences, height differences, etc.
2) in case the scratches are all over you should consider finding a vendor who provides a service of re-coating for these kinds of baths. Basically after this the tub should look as new (provided they done a good job), but of course it is more expensive alternative then option 1...
Hope this helps.
