My dryer starts up fine the element heats and the main gas valve opens and the burner ignites. It seems that the burner does not run long enough though; it only runs for about 20 seconds then goes out. The dryer then continues to run and the element heats back up when it calls for heat and the burner ignites again but again it only burns for a few seconds like 20 or so. After reading all the other posts and looking around the net I was wondering if this too might be the solenoid on the top of the gas valve? By the way our Dryer is a Maytag. About 15 years old.

Welcome Lasscow to my Gas Appliances forum and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Thanks for taking some time to read some of the already asked questions on dryers that do not heat. Very possible the one containing the most likely cause was overlooked or not posted very recently.

Before attempt to make any repairs, totally disconnect the venting system from the dryer. Than test dry another normal load. If the same condition exists, suspect the solenoids.

If the condition does not continue to happen, the venting system is either restricted and or clogged with lint.

Also check the flapper door inside the vent hood. It must be able to freely open and close. Check for kinks and or sharp bends in the venting tubing if plastic venting tubing is used.

You must check all these items before attempting any repairs which may not be the cause of the problem. Failure to do so will cost time and money replacing parts which are not the cause.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be also. They will need the make, model and serial numbers.

Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs. Always check for gas leaks when ever a repair includes any connection of a gas part.

Reminder: Read the existing questions on the subject of dryers that do not heat, etc. Doing so will quickly provide you with a additional information on how to resolve the problem.

I checked the venting system took it apart cleaned it out didn't find much there but anyway. Changed the solenoids and still not working correctly. As I said the dryer works the flame comes on and when it calls for heat it comes on again, however it seems to me that it should stay on longer. The first burn is for about 20 - 25 seconds; subsequent burns are for 6-9 seconds. Should this be longer or not? Could it be the flame sensor?

I found it. It wasn't the coil or the vent system. It was the blower fan. Needed to be replaced.

Hello Lasscow

Glad you found the problem and where able to fix it. Also that other parts where not needlessly replaced that would not have corrected the real cause.

Thanks for posting back the cause of the problem and the part you replaced to correct it. By posting back the problem cause and solution, every reader of your question in this forum learns more.

Thanks for taking your time to reply back. Much appreciated.
