My home was purchased from a man who had a wallpaper business and it is almost entirely covered in wallpaper. I've dreaded trying to remove the paper as I tried a small area and it was very difficult to get off.

I came to this forum and read everything I could on wallpaper removal. I'm happy to say that after applying the techniques learned here, the wallpaper came off very easy.

The most important thing learned was prepping the surface before removing the last layer. I pulled off the outer layer (vinyl) and used a small sprayer filled with a solution of hot water and dishwashing liquid to keep the walls soaked for about 20 minutes. After the wallpaper started to bubble from the moisture, the last layer that contained the adhesive just fell off after applying a (rented) steamer to the surface!

All the above information was found on this forum and I would still be scraping with a putty knife had I not found this forum and learned the easy way to remove wallpaper.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the contributors to this forum who shared their knowledge so that I didn’t have to spend endless hours removing wallpaper the hard way.

Thanks!
:)

Awwwww, you are making me blush. :o :D

If hung correctly over prepared walls or even better over genuine plaster walls, wallpaper is easy to remove 99% of the time. All it takes is time and water. We pros make it look simple, but it really is that way most of the time. The number one error is people not waiting the proper amount of time. The backing material bubbling up is the "pop up timer" that lets you know the wall is ready for scraping. One of these days, I will update my FAQ with that tip. Thanks for responding!
