Home is 14 years old, and popcorn ceiling has never been painted. Would it make more sense to remove, or paint over it.

What would be the best way to do either one?

If you paint it, you will need to roll it just one direction, not back and forth as it will come off. Being that old, it may even come off trying to paint it any way other than using a sprayer. If you would like a more "trendy" look, take it off! It should be very easy to take off.

Hello sanchelaine, if it won't take rolling it must be sprayed. To remove or prepare to spray are both BIG projects. Decide on the look you want and search the archives here for many thoughts on this subject.....Mike

For whatever it is worth....I don't have much experience painting but recently I contemplated the same thing...should I remove it or paint it?

Because of the time factor...I decided to paint it...I used a roller and although it was difficult....(it requires some good upper body strength!)...I found that you definitely have to get a good roller for rough surfaces so the paint goes on even. I'm sure people with more painting experience know that, but I found that it wasn't going on very well and had to stop and make a trip to the paint store. There was a professional painter there in line and he had to make some smart comments about the paint in my hair and on my face! Fortunately none of the ceiling came down! So in the end I think it turned out very well!

Hope it goes well for you!

Thank you all for your advice

I am going to give it a try, and let you know how it went.
