I have a metal box fireplace. The wall around it is drywall. Is it safe to construct a tiled box over the firplace for a television to be inserted in? How much room should I have between the tv box and the fireplace, and between the tv box and the flu? I am planning to use a layer of 5-ply wood, followed by concret board and then granite tile.
Thanks for the help.

Zaremski,

There are rules in how close "combustibles" can be placed near your flue which means that you need at least 2" of clearance. What you do will be based upon the construction makeup of your unit. Your ideas seem fine but everything is based on existing conditions.

Good Luck!

Zaremski,

Remember, heat is the worst enemy of electronic components.
