View Full Version : Cleaning terrazzo shower base

I have a 30 year old shower with a terrazzo base. Over the years it has become stained, very dull and pitted. It probably had a white and speckled finish originally. The walls are fine.

I'd like to either clean it first color it then recoat it with some clear covering as I really don't want to rip out the shower base. Any ideas?

I'm sure you've heard of the Bostik corporation. They're a multinational company with roots in Europe. They have a division which specializes in grout and masonary sealers for the construction industry called Ceramaseal, and you can contact Ceramaseal by going to Bostik's web site and following the sealers link or by phoning 1-800-523-6530. I seal all my bathroom ceramic wall tiles with their products. What I like about them is that they have a 1-800 number I can phone and ask questions of someone knowledgable about their products. Other sealers often only have an "Imported by" sticker, and you're left to the wisdom and experience of the 19 year old working in the home center where you bought it.

For a quick crash course in sealers for ceramic tile, go to the Ceramic Tile, Marble and Terrazzo forum and read my response to Ethipos' question entitled "tile on a tabletop".

Thanks to all for responses. I found an inquiry on the site re: Terrazzo Rough Spots and while there was guidance, the last line was "This is very unfriendly territory for a novice." Sounds like I call a plumber. Thanks.
