We are remodeling our bathroom and found oak floors under the vinyl. We plan on putting in ceramic tile, but I was wondering...is it fesible to keep the oak floors in the bath? The rest of the house has the same beautiful floors. Any suggestions?

You could keep the oak floors in the bathroom but over time you will find that water and wood is not agood match. I would opt for the ceramic.

Continue with your plan of putting ceramic down for the bathroom flooring. About the only thing worse than hardwood flooring in a bathroom is CARPETING!!

Many folks go with hardwood in bathrooms. The reason folks don't recommend it is that they have poor plumbing or plumbers which result in leaks. If you have a reputable plumber and all is well, you should have no problems in bathrooms. Vinyl is rapidly becoming dated product. Cermamic tile is gaining popularity in baths. Hardwood is an option for many.

I love hardwood. Keep the hardwood but treat with a floor polyurethane and caulk where needed.

The worst that will happen with the hardwood isn't water but a boy with poor aim. That will turn the wood black in a few years.

Thanks Bob, I do have an 11yr old son. We refinished the other floors in the house, but are getting mixed info on the bath. I guess it depends on how much we want to keep the wood floor. Thanks for the input.
