Help! Our 30 year old medicine cabinet is in desperate need of replacing, but the only electrical plug in in the entire bathroom is in the side of the cabinet! We want to remove the cabinet and replace it with a new med cabinet, but we don't know what to do with the existing wiring, and we don't know how to install a new electrical outlet. (The walls are tile.) Can anyone help?

Phoebe,
I am not an electrician, but the current code calls for a ground fault circuit interrupter (gfci) circuit in bathrooms. If I were you guys, I would call a pro electrician to install the proper wiring back to the panel and to your bathroom, install proper protected outlets, and re-wire a new medicine cabinet. It is not inexpensive, so get at least 3 quotes. Your medicine cabinet is an unsafe situation. Good Luck!

Phoebe, I totally agree with Old Guy. If installing a GFCI outlet is beyond your abilities and/or capabilities, hire a pro to do it for you. It may cost a couple hundred dollars, but the life you save may be your child's!!
