Where should I start? Cast iron tub needs to be removed. I want to install a standup shower with shower doors. Also would like to tile floor.

Changing from a tub to a shower will involve some changes in the plumbing. The tub uses a 1-1/2" drain line. The shower needs a 2" drain, and it will be in a different location. You will need to remove ALL of the tub's 1-1/2" drain line and replace it with 2". (Using the 1-1/2" vent is fine.)

Since you want a tile floor, I assume that you now have a vinyl floor. The vinyl is less than 1/8" thick and is laid on a particle board underlayment. Tile is at least 1/4" thick and should be laid on 1/2" thick wonder board (concrete board). You will have to plan carefully so that the floor height will match the existing floor at the doorway.

Removing the tub may involve creating a large enough opening so you can get it out. When the house was built, the tub was set in place BEFORE the walls were built around it!!

Guess the place to start is to think EVERYTHING through in detail, and develope your game plan BEFORE the Sawzall comes out of the case!
